Save our Pubs

As of 23rd May 2017, all pubs in England are fully protected in planning law making a full planning application and community consultation necessary before being demolished or converted.

This followed a successful campaign led by CAMRA members that highlighted the need for Government to act to protect pubs.

Prior to this new law, pubs in England could be demolished or converted without planning permission unless they had been granted Asset of Community Value (ACV) status. (Tewkesbury CAMRA have already secured ACVs for both The White Bear and The Black Bear)

There is now no need to pursue new ACV nominations other than in exceptional circumstances, such as when a community group has plans to purchase the pub.

As mentioned above – should a pub come under threat in your local community and there is a genuine interest and will within that local community to purchase it, then it may be that ACV status is relevant to giving the community an opportunity to buy the property.

If this is the case, then Tewkesbury CAMRA Pubs Officer is able to offer support and guidance. Contact Pete at ku.gro.armac.yrubsekwet@reciffosbup
